I’ll be honest here. I’ve never played a Resident Evil game before 5. I tooled around with Resident Evil 4 a bit at a friends house once, but beyond that, Resident Evil 5 was my first Resident Evil game. From an outside perspective, it was pretty awful. Ignoring the strays from the darker, scarier, themes of the previous games which enraged many longtime fans, I found the game itself to be a dull, nasty looking shooter. I think most diehard fans would agree with me that Resident Evil 5 didn’t really please anyone. Resident Evil 6 did look promising though.

Again, from an outside perspective, I had a polarized view of it. The multiple campaigns were interesting, and I really liked how each intersected with one another, but it still didn’t feel like Resident Evil, even though I’ve never ‘played’ Resident Evil. When I think Resident Evil, I think of a dark horror franchise. I don’t think of a game where you have to kill a human that turns into a giant dog, chases a train that you’re in, and shoots needles at you. It’s really in your face, and not horror at all. The story leaves a lot to be desired, and most of the gameplay is taken up by filler. The objectives you had to do throughout the game felt like they were there to bloat it up and extend its time. Run over here, pull this lever, run over there, pull that one. As it stands, I didn’t like Resident Evil 6. Chris’ campaign was a return to the dull Resident Evil 5 template, Jake’s campaign was very.. average, and Leon’s was the most bearable, besides all the ‘fetch key’ parts you had to do in it. Too much filler, very little game. Disappointing.
